Turbo’s Rescue Journey
Turbo’s life took an unexpected turn in 2020 when his family, overwhelmed by financial struggles during COVID and the demands of raising small children, made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him to the Humane Society. Turbo had begun falling into the family pool, and they no longer felt able to keep him safe or provide the care he needed.
Because the Humane Society does not adopt out dogs with medical concerns, they quickly reached out to Schnauzer Love Rescue for help. Within hours of being contacted, I picked Turbo up and brought him into foster care. We knew he might be losing his vision, so the rescue arranged for him to be evaluated by a Canine Eye Specialist. The diagnosis confirmed our concerns: Turbo was suffering from a degenerative eye disease he had been born with, and his sight was gradually fading.
Despite this, Turbo’s spirit remained bright. The years he spent with vision had given him confidence, which helped him learn to navigate the fenced yard and move around the house using voice cues. Apart from his progressive eye condition, he was in excellent health—and full of energy, affection, and trust.
It didn’t take long for a wonderful couple to see Turbo’s photos and fall completely in love. They were ready not only to adopt a blind dog, but to fully commit to the lifelong care his condition would require. Through the incredible “Pilots N Paws” program, Turbo was flown directly to his new family, where he was joyfully welcomed by his new mom and dad the moment he landed.
Turbo bonded with them immediately, sensing their love, patience, and devotion. Although complications eventually led to complete blindness, his family remains unwavering in their commitment to giving him a safe, happy, and fulfilling life. Turbo now enjoys the comfort of a home where he is deeply loved, carefully guided, and celebrated for the sweet, resilient dog he is.
